My Mom is a chocolate lover, and I thought it’d be fun to find a new item this year for her on the chocolate theme. She loves nice dark bittersweet chocolate, and she loves See’s chocolates. I was thinking maybe a special hot chocolate would be different and maybe something that’s bittersweet but in bite sized portions rather than bars. Any suggestions or favorites? Thanks if so! 🙂

I’d be remiss if I didn’t recommend a local chocolate maker: heavenlyconfectionery.com. I’ve personally sampled her wares and without a doubt the best fudge I’ve ever had! She also has truffles, bourbon balls and other things.
There was also a thread on POL about uber high end chocolate, but I couldn’t find it for you. I’m much more democratic in my chocolate tastes than in my perfume – I’m just as happy with a Reeces Cup as I am with the high end, gourmet stuff.
Oh, that sounds good! I’ll go look at that link, thanks! Mom likes all kinds of chocolate too, and both truffles and fudge would go over well. I thought it’d be fun to find something she’d not tried before, so a handcrafted product like that would be great. 🙂

look up Dolphin chocolate. it is a chocolate made in belgium and it is fantastic. my favorite is and always has been the Dark Chocolate Bar with Pink Peppercorn. i love it. you can find Dolphim products at

Thanks Jo! I’ve heard of Dolphin but have never tried it — those look good! They do have several dark ones that sound up her alley. I wonder if I might even find that locally, though there’s probably just enough time to order online if I hurry up. I’ll look into it, thanks!
I’m getting so many good ideas (more from an email from someone helpful too), that I could give her a personalized “chocolate of the month club” and send her something dark and yummy from a different brand each month. 🙂
You can’t go wrong with See’s – we always buy it for everyone, plus a few boxes for ourselves! I also bought several bags of Penzey’s hot chocolate for folks at work – penzeys.com. It’s high-fat cocoa, a little sugar, and some cinnamon and sugar. Very chocolatey, not too sweet, and really quite good. No frills packaging though.

See’s has been a tradition in our family too. The grandkids usually do See’s at Christmas for her so I thought I’d look for something new, but we all have favorites at See’s. Must go see Chocolate.com! Thanks! 🙂
Richart cocoa–they used to have a store in SF but now you have to go online. http://www.richart.com/ their chocolates are the best, too!
